The Kansas City Chiefs did such a great job putting together their roster that they even had to pay the kicker.

Harrison Butker is the highest-paid kicker in the NFL with a new contract extension agreed to on Monday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. The deal is worth $25.6 million over four years, includes $17.75 million guaranteed and extends Butker through the 2028 season. by Adam Schefter of ESPN. Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens may be asking for a raise after hearing this news.

Butker negotiated the deal alone, Rapoport said. Butker is coming off an excellent season, making 33 of 35 field goal attempts and all 38 extra point attempts last season.

Butker was a big part of the Chiefs’ three Super Bowl victories, including a championship-winning field goal with just eight seconds remaining against the Philadelphia Eagles two seasons ago. He didn’t make the Pro Bowl or be named first-team All-Pro because Tucker dominated those lists throughout his career, but Butker surpassed him in one important category with his new contract.

Before Butker became the highest-paid kicker in the NFL, he suddenly became a household name this offseason. Butker was speaking at a college graduation when her comments about women not entering the workforce and “most of you are more excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world” went viral. Butker also tried Pride Month as part of “deadly sins.” Butker’s comments pleased some because sales of his shirts suddenly soared amid the controversy.

Butker will always be remembered well for those comments and the debate that ensued during a slow period in the NFL offseason. He’s also good at kicking field goals, and the Chiefs gave him a big pay raise for his work.
