The Buffalo Sabers are entering next season with one main goal: breaking their 13-year playoff drought. For this to happen, they will not only need their stars to produce, but also the contribution of their entire formation.

When looking at the Sabres’ roster, it’s fair to argue that their forward depth looks stronger with all the summer additions from the bottom six. However, they also have several notable prospects who could compete for NHL jobs next season as well. One of them is striker Isak Rosen.

Rosen, 21, played his first seven NHL games last season for the Sabres, where he failed to get on the scoresheet. Although his first experience at the NHL level was uneventful, he improved significantly at the AHL level. In 67 games with the Rochester Americans in 2023-24, he set new career highs with 20 goals, 30 assists and 50 points. It was a huge step in the right direction for the 2021 first-round pick, and he should build on it in 2024-25.

At the very least, Rosen should get more chances at the NHL level next season. However, when looking at his improvement over the last campaign, there is also the possibility that he could take another step forward and establish himself as an impactful NHLer. Therefore, he is one of the top contenders for next season and it will be fascinating to see what kind of campaign he mounts.
