While the Canadiens and SKA have communicated about his development since the Montreal franchise drafted the young Russian, it was never mentioned that he was viewed as the KHL team’s 13th forward, but that’s how he says he’s labeled now.

There have been a few additions to the SKA roster since the end of the Russian league playoffs, forwards Mikhail Grigorenko (former Buffalo Sabers first-round pick, 12th overall) and Sergei Plotnikov (who played one year with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Arizona Coyotes) both came from CSKA Moscow. Evgeny Kuznetsov also signed a contract with SKA and is expected to play big minutes.
Demidov still wants to play out the year in Russia and finish out his contract with SKA, but that could mean he plays in the VHL rather than the KHL. It will be interesting to see how Montreal reacts to this information. So far there is no indication that the young striker’s development plan could change, but considering his importance for the reconstruction of the organization, things could evolve quickly.
