Former San Jose Sharks and current Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane will start the season 24-25 on LTIR with an injury.

According to Oilers radio announcer Bob Stauffer, Kane will not be ready for the start of the regular season.
Hearing that there is a good chance that the @EdmontonOilers Evander Kane will not be ready for the start of the season… as he may need surgery… and will likely be on LTIR to start the year

Last season, Kane scored 24 goals and 20 assists while apparently playing with a hernia. He often missed practices and occasional games during the Stanley Cup playoffs.
It is not known whether this injury is related to the sports hernia.
Kane played in 20 games in the postseason, missing five games. He had four goals and four assists and was minus-seven in the postseason.
Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said he expects winger Evander Kane to be ready to start the Stanley Cup Final. Kane only played 4:39 in Game 6 against DAL due to injury. He’s playing with a sports hernia.

Kane fully admitted to the injury before the postseason, as he missed the Oilers’ final three regular season games.
“I’ve been dealing with a sports hernia all year. It was getting worse and worse, so I thought it would be good to take a week off for the playoffs.”

With the winger expected to require surgery, the Oilers cap space will earn $5.25 million while he is on LTIR. According to PuckPedia, the Oilers are projected to be $354,167 over the $88 million salary cap.
Kane’s time with the San Jose Sharks was controversial. His time in San Jose ended with a violation of the COVID-19 vaccination protocol and his contract was terminated in January 2022. He was suspended 21 games for the violation.
