What is the NHL Draft Lottery?

The NHL Draft Lottery is a weighted system that determines the advance order of the NHL Draft.

When did the NHL lottery drawing start?

Once the first two picks are established, the remaining teams will receive picks Nos. 3 through 16 based on the reverse order of the regular season standings. . Picks 17 to 32 are based on regular season standings and playoff results.

Through the lottery, teams can move up up to 10 spots in the NHL draft order compared to where they finished in the regular season standings. Therefore, 11 teams are in contention for the No. 1 pick.

The team with the 12th worst record can move up to 2nd place at the top, the team with the 13th worst record can move up to 3rd place, and so on.
