Michkov has landed – Flyers’ top prospect makes the team (in a Phillies hat) originally appeared in NBC Sports Philadelphia
The last time Matvei Michkov was at the Flyers Training Center He was playing air hockey ahead of the 2023 NHL Draftnot knowing if he would ever call Philadelphia his NHL home.
This time, he will play real hockey.
Like a pamphlet.
After signing his initial contract just over three weeks ago, the top prospect has returned to the United States. The team shared the following photos and videos on your X account (formerly Twitter).
The Flyers will hold an introductory press conference on Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET in Voorhees, New Jersey. Michkov will be accompanied by general manager Danny Briere and a translator.
As we have already noted, Michkov’s arrival at the Flyers comes two years ahead of schedule. When the Flyers drafted him 7th overall last summer, a three-year wait was expected because of Michkov’s contract in the KHL, Russia’s top professional league. But the 19-year-old was officially released by his club SKA St. Petersburg a month agopaving the way for him to come from Russia and pursue his NHL dream in Philadelphia.
“I am extremely happy to officially become part of the Flyers family,” Michkov said when he signed his contract with the Flyers. “Being in the NHL has been a dream for me since childhood. I would like to thank the Flyers management immensely for their trust. and start preparing for the new season together, and I would like to especially congratulate our fans. We have the same dream of winning the Stanley Cup and I promise I will do my best to help this team and make that possible.”
Michkov is now preparing for the Flyers’ training camp, which will begin in mid-September. The Flyers open the preseason on September 22 It is the regular season October 11.
