San Jose Sharks defenseman Henry Thrun signed a two-year extension and is excited about the fresh start of the 2024-25 season.

Thrun signed a two-year, $2 million contract and is ready to get back into the swing of things for an NHL season. The Sharks have significantly changed their roster, but Thrun remains a vital piece on the blue line.

“I mean, it couldn’t actually be expressed in words. I was talking to Mario about [the future] the other week, and I’m looking forward to a new chance, a new slate of sorts,” Thrun said. “I think last year, from a lot of guys, individual and group perspectives, it was very frustrating. This year will just be a new opportunity and I think everyone is very excited.”

Thrun told the media that he has been gaining weight over the summer. On the NHL website, the defenseman is listed as weighing 190 pounds, but he says he now weighs more than 200 pounds.

“I’m a little, more than that, that number is quite outdated,” Thrun smiled. “Hopefully this can be updated this year during training camp.” [I’m] hovering just above 200 pounds. I imagine arriving at camp probably at 205, which makes me happy.”

Thrun said he spoke with new coach Ryan Warsofsky about the upcoming change in communication style.

“I mean, the head coach is in a separate area when it comes to the relationship you have with them. That’s something I feel comfortable with with Ryan, but I recognize that this year, they’re probably just going to be kind of a different tone to our relationship, which is totally fine and totally the way I hope it will be,” Thrun said.

The 23-year-old will look to add eight assists to his three-goal season and take the next step in his development.
