WAYNE ROONEY has revealed the lengths he would go to lose weight as he returns to his pre-season excess weight.
The former Manchester United legend says he used to return from summer holidays “six or seven kilos overweight”.
Rooney joined Jill Scott, Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright in the Stick to Football podcast with Sky Bet.
The former Englishman was announced as a permanent member of the panel in April.
But he will soon be gone again now that he is in charge of Championship side Plymouth.
Rooney said: “I hated pre-season. I came back every pre-season six or seven kilos overweight. So I knew I had to work hard.”
Wright asked if Rooney did any training to stay in shape, to which the English legend said no and Wright replied: “Wow, Wayne.”
After Neville revealed he did some exercise to help him over the summer, Rooney revealed the extreme efforts he made to ‘gain weight’ after returning for pre-season.
The Plymouth manager said: “I used to take the [exercise] bike in the steam room the day before we returned.
“Honestly, the night before the weigh-in, I sat there for 90 minutes, fully clothed.

“I wouldn’t eat anything, I wouldn’t drink anything.”
Rooney said his preparations to be fit would only begin once he returned to training, which Keane agreed.
This compares to today’s athletes, who often train during vacations.
But Rooney dismissed athletes posting clips of them training during the holidays as “for PR”.
On the beep tests, Rooney said, “I used to give up early all the time. Because the next time you do it, you’ve got to do better! As soon as the keepers came out, I was out.”
Keane replied: “I like your tactics!”
