Stephen Kingsley says signing a new three-year contract at Hearts was “an easy decision”.

The versatile defender joined the club in 2020 from Hull City and became a fan favorite during his time at Tynecastle.

The 30-year-old’s 2022/23 campaign has been hampered by a series of injuries, but he made 33 league appearances last season as Hearts slipped to third place in the Premiership.

“I’m really happy. It’s been talked about for a while now, a few months ago,” Kingsley told Hearts TV. “I’m really happy to push the limits and really focus on next season.

“It was an easy decision. A few conversations with the manager sealed the deal for me. I’m happy here, happy with the way the club is going, it’s an exciting time ahead.

“On the field, it’s an exciting project and I’m very happy to be part of it. Off the field, it’s ideal for me and my family. Now I have children who love going to games and it’s close to home.”

Manager Steven Naismith told club media that Kingsley had “more than deserved this new contract”.

“He ticks a lot of boxes for World Cups,” he added.

“He is experienced, has played internationally and has a level of consistency and performance. I’m really pleased we got this resolved and to be honest it was easy to do.

“He understands what the club can give him in his life and we have a fantastic professional who can help drive standards forward as we look to progress.”
