Despite being outplayed for most of the night, Milan held off Barcelona and defeated the LaLiga giants on penalties in a pre-season friendly.
Top scorers: Lewandowski 22′, 58; Jović 10′, Pulisic 15′
Although Barça dominated the ball in the first 20 minutes, Milan took a 2-0 lead in the blink of an eye thanks to goals from Luka Jović and Christian Pulisic.
But Barcelona’s possession and pressure would finally be revealed a few minutes later when Robert Lewandowski halved the lead.
Young Pau Victor continued to excel after some excellent performances throughout this pre-season, providing a superb assist for Lewandowski after the restart to level the LaLiga giants in style.
Milan provided little in the way of attacking skill after the Blaugrana equalized, and a series of changes from Paulo Fonseca did little to reverse the momentum in their favor.
Still, the Serie A side held on as Barcelona pushed for victory in the final minutes to send the game to penalties, as is customary in pre-season friendlies in the United States.
After mistakes from Ismaël Bennacer and Jules Koundé in the first round, Milan’s youngster Lorenzo Torriani stood out in the later rounds to make some important saves and win the game for Milan.
Milan will now turn their attention to the opening weekend of Serie A with a clash against Torino, while Barca will face Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy before beginning their LaLiga campaign.
