PETER CROUCH has revealed one of his former managers warned him to “control” his behavior after he appeared in the newspapers too often.
The former striker became a household name during his time at Liverpool.
He went to the 2006 World Cup and his famous robot celebration meant he was hugely popular and a well-known figure.
While his relationship with Abbey Clancey also attracted media attention.
Then-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez warned Crouch about his frequent appearances in the newspapers, suggesting it was becoming a “problem”.
Crouch recalled a conversation he had with his former manager at That Peter Crouch Podcast.
He said: “I remember Rafa told me to control it because Abbey was in the paper and I was being photographed with her and stuff like that.
“He said ‘are you sure about this?’ And I thought well… He’s saying, look, you know this is becoming a problem.
“You know, because people are taking pictures of us and we’re in the paper. I don’t think anyone could believe what was happening when I was with Ab, how the hell he did it.
“My unbelievable achievements off the field have perhaps overshadowed my reasonable achievements on the field.”

The couple, who married in 2011, still appear regularly in the media to this day, with Abbey revealing that she discovered a pill that saved her sex life.
They also turned heads when they stripped down to their swimwear on holiday in Italy earlier this summer.
