St Johnstone midfielder Cammy MacPherson apologized afterwards sharing a video by far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

The club’s new owner Adam Webb has confirmed that the 25-year-old faces disciplinary action after retweeting a film made by the English Defense League founder in which Robinson repeats false claims he made about a refugee who took him to losing a defamation case in 2021.

This sparked an angry response from some fans of the Perth club on social media, after which MacPherson removed the retweet and made his X profile private.

The club initially said it had handled the matter internally and would have no further comment.

But now Webb – in an open letter to fans – has said MacPherson’s actions breached the club’s “rules of conduct” and “will not be tolerated”.

MacPherson said in a statement on the club’s website: “I would like to start by apologizing for republishing a film that appeared on my X account.

“I showed a lack of judgment without considering the club’s code of conduct.

“Upon reflection and my own additional research, I completely understand why people were so upset and angry about this situation.

“I now fully understand the impact of my actions and am committed to learning from this experience.”

Webb said the club now “strengthens” its rules of conduct and is eager to move forward after MacPherson’s “unintentional lapse in judgement”.

He added: “I can assure you that Cammy understands and agrees that this is a club open to all. His contrition is real and he has learned a valuable lesson.”
