Newcastle hosted Girona at St. James’ Park on Friday and ended the night on a happier note after a 4-0 victory.

Chasers: Longstaff 3′, 45′; Murphy 14′, Gordon 15′

It was one-way traffic as Eddie Howe’s men let goals fly against their LaLiga opponents in front of the home fans.

Sean Longstaff’s late entry into the box and powerful left-footed finish saw Newcastle take the lead in the blink of an eye.

Jacob Murphy scored again in pre-season when he was left unmarked in the box and subsequently shot past goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

Anthony Gordon got in on the action with a smart run and cool finish for 3-0 after just 15 minutes. Longstaff’s second goal of the night, from close range, put the game out of reach despite a full second half still to come.

Alexander Isak will be frustrated not to have his name on the scoresheet after the former Tottenham goalkeeper denied him from the penalty spot.

Seventeen-year-old Trevan Sanusi also fell short in fifth place for Newcastle, but must have impressed Howe with his performance, while John Ruddy made his debut midway through the game.

Next up is the game against Brest on Saturday.
