EFL manager sacked after ONE GAME as club brutally swings the ax after losing opening match of new season

PRESTON sacked manager Ryan Lowe just ONE game into the Championship season.

And the club have announced that Ched Evans will occupy the touchline while they find a replacement.

A statement said: “Preston North End can confirm that manager Ryan Lowe has left the club by mutual consent.

“Ryan joined the club in December 2021, taking us to 13th, 12th and 10th place in his two and a half seasons as coach of the club’s first team.

“Following discussions that took place on Sunday 11 August, it was mutually agreed that now was the appropriate time for a change to be made.

“Ryan leaves thanking everyone at the club for their hard work, dedication and commitment, and we wish him and his family the best for the future.

“For the next two games against Sunderland and Swansea City this week, Mike Marsh – joined by Peter Murphy and Ched Evans – will be in charge of the team.

“Deals beyond these two games will be announced next week.”

Preston suffered a 2–0 defeat to Sheffield United on the opening day of the Championship season.

First-team coach Mike Marsh is expected to take over as manager for the next two games, with striker Evans set to help him.

Evans has already spent a long period out of football after being convicted of rape in 2014, before a retrial in 2016 found him not guilty.

The striker spent two and a half years in prison and returned to play for Chesterfield after being released.

Peter Murphy is also expected to help Marsh in charge.

Preston currently sit 23rd in the Championship table, just above Plymouth Argyle.
