Goalkeeper Jack Butland believes Rangers’ new signings have already had a positive impact and that they have a “more stable” squad than at the same stage last season under previous manager Michael Beale.

First-team stalwarts Connor Goldson, John Lundstram, Borna Barisic and Ryan Jack left current manager Philippe Clement’s squad this summer.

“The start of last season was so difficult for a lot of reasons – a lot of changes at the club,” Butland said as he looked forward to Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kiev.

“I like to think that we are calmer and have started the season in a more positive way than last year. Although we didn’t get the victory we wanted on the first day, there is much more optimism. think.”

So far, Connor Barron has established himself in midfield following his move from Aberdeen.

And the latest arrivals, former Twente defender Robin Propper and on-loan Wolfsburg winger Vaclav Cerny, also started in Saturday’s win over Motherwell, with the latter scoring.

“It’s always important during the summer, transfers have to make an impact,” Butland added. “They have to come in and be the right characters, which we’ve certainly seen so far.

“Some have already made important contributions and we hope we continue to see that. But as a coaching team and players, we are very pleased with how they have adapted.

“Vaclav scored a brilliant goal at the weekend and Robin looks solid and offers us something different.”
