City are yet to extend his contract after delaying negotiations during his long injury layoff.

De Bruyne missed four months at the start of this season with a hamstring injury.

He has now been tipped to join LAFC or LA Galaxy once he leaves the Etihad Stadium.

His former Belgium and Genk teammate Christian Benteke believes De Bruyne would be a good fit for MLS.

Benteke told the MLS overtime show: “He’s 32 years old and has been in Europe for many, many years.

“I can see him on a team in Los Angeles.”

De Bruyne has continued to impress since returning from injury for City.

The 32-year-old has scored five goals and provided 14 assists in 19 appearances this season.

The striker also spent a decade in England with Aston Villa, Liverpool and Crystal Palace before joining MLS side DC United in 2022.

Since then, he has scored 21 goals in 44 league games in the USA and praised the standard of the competition.

Speaking about MLS in general, he added: “I would describe the league as physical and technical.

Why Man City fans were to blame for the penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid

RIO FERDINAND and Joleon Lescott have blamed FANS for Man City’s penalty shootout defeat to Real Madrid.

Bernardo Silva missed one of the penalties as City fell from the Champions League.

And the English duo noticed how the home fans at the Etihad played an important role in saving the penalty.

Former Man City star Lescott claimed the home fans held the ball for too long after Real’s Luka Modric fired his shot into the stands.

He said: “It would have thrown him out of sync and rhythm.

“You can practice the routine, the technique, potentially going up, that’s something you don’t prepare for, the ball being in the crowd.”

Ferdinand chimed in: “40 seconds, by the way, Joleon,” before Lescott continued: “That’s a long time. It may not seem like a long time, but it’s a long time when you’re waiting there and thinking, now do I change position?

“Now I change where I go? And suddenly, it’s a light penalty.”

Manchester United legend Ferdinand said: “It’s a shame too, because it’s the home fans who are delaying the penalty kick, which is a shame.”

“It’s a mix of both because people think, ‘Oh yeah, MLS is easy. They don’t really care about football or soccer.’

“Until you play, you understand that you are going to have fun. But you better be prepared, you better respect the championship because it’s not that easy.”
