MANCHESTER UNITED hero David de Gea is being targeted by Real Betis ahead of the summer transfer window after a full year without a club.
De Gea, 33, left United last June when his contract expired after 12 years at Old Trafford, where he won every domestic title available.
The goalkeeper was quickly linked with a number of suitors, including Betis, but his salary demands proved excessive for all candidates and so he spent the entire campaign as a free agent.
According to Deportivo StadiumHowever, the La Liga giants plan to make another bid for the former Spanish international in June.
Manuel Pellegrini’s team intends to contact De Gea’s representatives about his situation.
The expectation is that the former Atlético de Madrid star will have to reduce his demands, given his advanced age and the fact that he has been away from games for a year.
The former Premier League star would also like to settle in Spain with his family also open.
Betis will need a new goalkeeper, as Claudio Bravo turned 41 and is leaving.
Rui Silva has also attracted a host of suitors after a series of impressive performances at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
Silva has a contract until 2026, but Serie A clubs are arriving and Betis are open to negotiations.

However, the Spanish team has other potential candidates to fill the position besides De Gea.
And one of them is Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena, who could become available amid his club’s financial problems.
De Gea accumulated a total of 545 appearances for United, where he kept 190 clean sheets and conceded 590 goals.
The Spaniard won the Premier League Golden Glove last season after recording the most clean sheets in the English top flight.
