Fans labeled Vitalii Mykolenko a “cyborg” and couldn’t believe his “ankle is still attached to his body” – after the Everton defender KEPT ON despite a horrific injury.
Mykolenko’s left ankle was hit by Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and appeared distorted as it fell beneath him during Wednesday’s Premier League derby at Goodison Park.
He limped and, after lengthy treatment, still limped off – but the Toffees made no substitutions in the remaining minutes of the first half.
And even though Mykolenko was replaced by Ashley Young in the second period, spectators were surprised by his ability to shake off the unhealthy sprain of his foot.
One fan said: “Mykolenko is a bloody Cyborg, isn’t he? How the hell is he still on the field?”
Another posted: “I can’t believe Mykolenko’s ankle is still attached to his body.”
And many observers admitted their surprise that the Ukrainian left-back was able to get up, let alone limp away.
These comments included: “Mykolenko remained after that”… Is Mykolenko still walking?” and “How the hell did Mykolenko manage to do that..!!”
Many fans feel his spirit summed up Everton’s performance, which dented Liverpool’s title hopes.
Jarrad Branthwaite opened the scoring in the 27th minute before Domini Calvin-lerwin doubled the Toffees’ lead just before the 16th minute.
