ROY KEANE has confessed to an “absolutely disgraceful” drinking habit during his golden years at Manchester United.

The legendary hardman says he would regularly drink beer four days in a row if there was no midweek match.

Keane won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League in United’s famous 1998-99 Treble season.

But he believes the football world may be shocked to learn of some of his behavior while at Old Trafford from 1993 to 2005.

The former Republic of Ireland midfielder, 52, said Sky Bet bets on football podcast: “People used to say I was a good professional. Some of my stuff was downright disgraceful.”

Keane went on to detail his drinking routine in case Alex Ferguson’s men knew they would be out of action for the week.

He said: “Definitely on Saturday. Definitely on Sunday.

“I would often go on Saturday after the game, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Pints ​​or whatever I was drinking at the time.”

But he emphasized: “I would draw the line on Wednesday, to be fair.”

Gary Neville, then a United team-mate, reckons that many top-flight players drank regularly at that time.

He told Keane during the podcast chat with Ian Wright and Jill Scott: “The reason you got away with it was because a lot of players on other teams were doing the same.

“As long as everyone could drink 10 liters, everyone would be at the same fitness level.”

Keane suggested that his relative youth, as well as playing in such a good team, helped him thrive despite his drinking.

But when Neville outlined his own theory, Keano nodded and said, “Probably.”

Former England defender Nev also explained how football standards off the pitch were quickly transformed.

He said: “I always look back to that period before 1995-96 as all the players were doing the same thing.

“1996-2000 became very professional during this period – nutritionists came in, etc.”

Keane agreed, but joked: “I kept going for a while – they’re not changing me!”

Meanwhile, Neville revealed he once had a seizure and passed out while covering an England game at Euro 2020.

Keane’s career faded dramatically after he left Old Trafford following a falling out with Fergie.

And after seven months at Celtic – the club he supported as a child – the former Nottingham Forest hero stopped playing on medical advice in June 2006.

Two-year spells as manager followed at Sunderland and Ipswich before becoming a Sky Sports commentator known for his outspoken views.
