The much-loved former Sky Sports Soccer Saturday cast reunited last night – but it appears their “toughest colleague” didn’t get an invite.

Jeff Stelling was the face of the hit TV show for over 25 years, providing countless hilarious moments covering all the UK football action every weekend.

But things began to turn sour when several regulars were made redundant in 2021 as part of a major shake-up at broadcasters following the Covid pandemic.

Former Aston Villa and Bayern Munich striker Alan McInally survived, but West Ham icon Tony Cottee and Liverpool legend Phil Thompson were sacked after two decades on the show.

Matt Le Tissier and Charlie Nicholas have also been released by Sky Sports, with beloved Chris Kamara announcing his departure in 2022 for health reasons.

Presenter Stelling finally quit last summer because “fighting” every week was “making him sick” and now he is starring in a new role on talkSPORT.

However, this week a number of our old favorites got together for something to eat and drink.

‘Kammy’ shared a photo of himself sitting with Stelling, McInally, Cottee and Thompson at the X last night along with another man.

He captioned it: “5 of the guys and the producer showed up.

“What a great night so far.”

However, one of his former teammates on the show noticed the photo on social media and quickly responded.

Former QPR, Man City and England striker Rodney Marsh worked at Soccer Saturday for 11 years.

He was fired in January 2005 for making an on-air joke about the devastating tsunamis that hit Thailand weeks earlier.

He responded to Kamara’s post last night with a laughing emoji and the words, “I shouldn’t be on the mailing list.”

To which Kammy responded with a similar emoji and the message: “You are a reclusive Rodney.”

Who are these famous football players?

Stelling singled out Marsh, 79, as the “most difficult colleague” he worked with after his departure last year.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Worst colleague I’ve ever worked with on screen? Rodney Marsh.

“Ex from talkSPORT too, of course. But, you know, Rodney was a tough guy.

“And that’s exactly what we wanted.”
