When they take to the field at Goodison Park on Saturday (12:30 p.m. ET), Everton may just need a win over Brentford to secure their place in the Premier League next season.
WATCH EVERTON x BRENTFORD LIVE
If 18th-placed Luton Town (25 points) do anything but beat Wolves in Saturday’s 10am ET window, Everton (33 points) will be just one win away from avoiding relegation for the third consecutive season. Sean Dyche’s men have put themselves in a strong position with back-to-back wins over Nottingham Forest and Liverpool last week, now they can finish the job after receiving two deductions, making their total eight points this season with three games remaining. The key to its recent success? The Toffees have kept three consecutive clean sheets in three successive home wins after winning just three of their first 14 home matches at the start of the campaign.
On the other hand, Brentford (35 points) have managed to do just enough in recent weeks to be mathematically clear of relegation heading into week 35, but it has been a long and difficult season for Thomas Frank, with injuries, suspensions and mid-season success. International tournaments have complicated things infinitely. From December 6th to March 29th (15 games), the Bees managed just three defeats in PL play (2W-1D-12L) as they slowly but surely sank closer and closer to the bottom three. Their current five-game unbeaten run (2W-3D-0L) has prevented the drop, and Saturday’s trip to Merseyside will go a long way to deciding who finishes 15th and who settles for 16th.
