A FOOTIE fan has been charged with a public order offense after allegedly mocking the Munich air disaster while celebrating a goal against Man United.
Nathan Rawlinson, 44, was arrested for an alleged “tragedy chant” following Burnley’s late equalizer in Saturday’s clash.
Online videos show a man apparently making airplane gestures at Old Trafford fans – a reference to the 1958 disaster that killed 23 people, including eight Busby Babes.
The fan also appeared to chant “Munich” after Zeki Amdouni’s 87th-minute penalty.
Rawlinson, of Bacup, Lancs, was released on bail to face court at a later date.
Burnley FC condemned the “offensive footage”.
Burnley previously condemned the “offensive footage” and promised to work with Man United and the police to identify and prosecute the fans involved.
The club said: “We are aware of the offensive images circulating on social media since today’s game at Old Trafford.
“Gesturing and singing in connection with the tragedy are completely unacceptable and Burnley Football Club takes a zero-tolerance approach.
“We will continue to work with Greater Manchester Police, Lancashire Police and Manchester United to help identify and prosecute the individuals responsible.”
The Premier League added in a statement: “There is no place for abuse of football tragedies in our game.
“We strongly condemn this behavior and there are sanctions in place to ensure anyone found guilty faces consequences.
“We continue to treat this as an unacceptable issue and fully support Burnley FC, Manchester United and the police in identifying and prosecuting those responsible.”
