And the £43.8m signing revealed he wondered whether he had made the right choice in moving to “Rainchester” from Inter Milan.

Onana stated: “It was very difficult to start – it was the first time I faced such a situation.

“At first I thought: ‘Wow, did I make the right choice?’.

“Now I know the league, the people, the country, Manchester – OK, Rainchester! When I look back now, I’m just smiling because it was a great lesson for me.

“But I’m 100 percent sure I made the right choice because Manchester United is the biggest club in this country, one of the biggest in the world.

“Who would say ‘No’ to playing at this beautiful club?”

However, Onana admits that all of United’s players are “not happy” with the way this season has unfolded.

Boss Erik ten Hag’s side are eighth in the Premier League after losing a record 12 matches, with the Dutchman’s job hanging in the balance.

United also risk being left out of Europe for the first time in 10 years if they finish outside the top seven and fail to win the FA Cup in this month’s final at Wembley against rivals Manchester City.

The players were also criticized by former Old Trafford legends Roy Keane, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville.

Fans say ‘I love his character’ after seeing what Onana did before Man Utd were awarded the penalty against Chelsea

Ahead of tonight’s crucial trip to Crystal Palace, Onana, 28, told MUTV: “The whole season has been difficult for all of us.

“But we all have to take responsibility. I start with myself, always.

“You can talk about a lot of things – injuries, bad luck. But we are Manchester United, such a big club, so we can’t talk about it. We have to stay positive.

“My teammates are not happy with the situation because they are all winners, they all want to win.

“When we started the season, we talked in the dressing room about fighting for all the titles.

“But things happen in life and we have to deal with that situation.

“We have a great final to play and a few more games. Let’s go ahead and finish with dignity.”

Experts’ verdict on Ten Hag’s future

What are the experts’ stance on Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United?

Jamie Carragher – fired

“I don’t see how Erik ten Hag will stay. It’s just performance after performance.”

Gary Neville – Stay if you win the FA Cup

“Firing a manager who won two trophies in his first two seasons at the club would be extreme.”

Louis Saha – On the fence

“I don’t see it so clearly, but they need changes from the players, but they also need changes from him.”

Alan Shearer – fired

“I believe the future of the Man Utd manager has already been determined. Even if they win the FA Cup, I think he is gone.”
