JORGINHO wants to give Arsenal fans a special end to the season after signing a new contract with the club.

The Gunners midfielder joined from Chelsea in January 2023 for £12 million on an 18-month contract with the option of an extension.

And after months of negotiations over his current contract which expires this summer, the 32-year-old Italian international has finally signed a new deal.

SunSport understands it is another short-term deal, believed to be a one-year contract with the potential to run for a further 12 months.

Jorginho has made 51 appearances in all competitions for north London so far – an essential cog in Mikel Arteta’s side challenging for the Premier League title in two consecutive seasons.

Arsenal lead the Prem with two games remaining – a point above Manchester City, who have a game in hand.

With this year’s run with City reaching its limit, Jorginho said: “I feel like I can and want to give more to the fans because they have given me a lot of love and support.

“All I want is to give back. I feel like I have more to do.

“I want to win as much as I can. We are enjoying [this season] because it is a beautiful journey. It’s a special moment, a special thing we’re doing.

“We need to strive and enjoy the moment, every day. To be where we are, we work hard, we need to be proud and confident in what we are doing and believe in it.”

He added: “I’m very, very happy to stay. It is a privilege to be part of this family.

“I felt part of something big immediately. Everyone here can count on me. I will always be there for them.”

Jorginho’s extension comes as Arteta and Sporting Director Edu plan another summer overhaul, with midfielder Thomas Partey’s future up in the air with 12 months left on his contract.

Jorginho also joins Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhães, Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba, who have signed new contracts in the last 18 months.

Arteta said: “Jorgi is a very important part of our team.

“A role model with great leadership skills and a unique style of play that makes everyone around him better on the field.

“We are all excited to continue this journey together.”

Edu added: “He represents what we stand for here at Arsenal with his professionalism and success as we continue to build to be better and stronger.”

Arsenal head to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday before hosting Everton on the final day, while City still have Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham to play.
