Former Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang broke down in tears after Marseille were knocked out of the Europa League by Atalanta.
The French team reached the semi-finals but were unable to secure their place in the Dublin final after losing the second leg 3-0.
Marseille drew 1-1 at home to Atalanta last week, so they knew they had a difficult task to progress.
Atalanta eliminated Liverpool from the competition in the previous round, so confidence was high, and when former Everton and Leicester ace Ademola Lookman opened the scoring they never looked in danger of being eliminated.
Goals from Matteo Ruggeri and El Bilal Touré allowed Atalanta to pick up easy victories and leave Marseille’s dream of European glory in tatters.
It was a difficult result for some to accept, with Aubameyang in tears at the final whistle.
The striker struggled to compose himself as he fought back tears, with fans sharing their condolences.
One reacted by saying: “I feel bad for him. He served us best in one of our club’s darkest times. Head Up Champion, you are a legend.”
Another added: “Great player, sorry man.”
A third wrote: “I feel so sad for him. He’s been great for them this season.”

And another commented: “Aubameyang deserves better.”
Aubameyang has had an excellent campaign in Europe this season, scoring 12 goals in 15 games.
But he is yet to win anything on the continent, having finished runners-up in the Europa League in 2019 when Arsenal were beaten 4-1 in the final by Chelsea.
