When they last met, Columbus and Cincinnati were engaged in a 120-minute battle royale in the Eastern Conference Final. The Crew recovered from two goals down to force injury time, and that’s when – in the 115th minute – Christian Ramirez scored the winning goal.
On Sunday (4:45 p.m. ET on FOX), the Portland Woods It is Seattle Sounders revisit their decidedly hostile Cascadia Cup rivalry. This is a rivalry that dates back nearly five decades and includes iterations of the two teams in four different leagues (NASL → A-League → USL First Division → MLS). Both clubs have been struggling so far this season, but perhaps a brilliant rivalry victory could reverse the fortunes of the winner in 2024.
Elsewhere, in non-rivalry matchups, the defense twice MLS Player of the Week Lionel Messi Goes to Canada like a high flyer Inter Miami CF aims to humiliate another enemy, CF Montréal. Miami has won four straight, including a 6-2 destruction of New York Red Bullsduring which Messi broke a league record.

This isn’t just “game of the week.” This is possibly the game of the season so far. FC Cincinnati is pushing Inter Miami to the top of the table Eastern Conference Standings. The Columbus Crew are on a roll after a fascinating Concacaf Champions Cup semi-final victory about Liga MX powerhouse Monterrey. This triumph boosted the Crew in first place of the most recent Concacaf club rankings.
There’s a lot to keep an eye on for these two teams when it comes to the U.S. in international competition this summer. While FC Cincinnati defenders Miles Robinson and DeAndre Yedlin could play roles for the USMNT in the upcoming Copa America, Crew midfielder Aidan Morris and goalkeeper Patrick Schulte could represent the US in Paris for the Summer Olympics.
