A LEEDS United star’s Land Rover crashed into a police car outside the club’s stadium ahead of tonight’s crucial play-off semi-final.
A car belonging to Charlie Cresswell, 21, was involved in the crash on the outskirts of Elland Road just hours before his team were due to face Norwich.
The defender, who also played for the England under-21 team, was reportedly driving the vehicle at the time.
Photos from the scene show a Land Rover Defender and a West Yorkshire Police patrol car badly damaged.
The crash occurred as the players were preparing to report to the ground this morning ahead of the second leg.
Emergency services attended the scene, close to the club’s ticket office, shortly before 10.15am.
Police confirmed that one officer suffered minor injuries in the crash.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson added: “At 10.13am today (Thursday), police were notified of a collision involving a police car and a Land Rover Defender in Elland Road, Leeds.
“One officer was treated for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.”
The force says investigations were “ongoing” into the circumstances of the collision.
It comes as Leeds prepare for their biggest game of the season tonight, with the chance to play at Wembley and keep their hopes of a return to the League alive.
A goalless first leg at Norwich set up a difficult second leg at Elland Road, with both teams seeking a guaranteed place in the Prem.
Leeds had a goal controversially disallowed after a Junior Firpo score was ruled offside.
The Peacocks are now favorites to finish the job at Elland Road on Thursday night after having a poor record away from home this season.
Preston-born Cresswell has been a regular substitute for Daniel Farke’s side but has struggled to get minutes on the pitch.
The footballer was part of the England Under-21 team that won the 2023 European Under-21 Championship.
