NOTTINGHAM FOREST loanee Gonzalo Montiel has been ordered to return to Argentina for a psychiatric assessment after being accused of rape.

The incident between the 27-year-old World Cup winner and a model reportedly occurred at his birthday party on January 1, 2019, when he was playing for River Plate.

Montiel, whose friend Alexis Acosta is also under investigation, was accused of drugging and raping the woman.

The alleged victim also claims that he was threatened by the player’s relatives and associates following the incident.

According to national mediaMontiel, who denies any wrongdoing, was ordered to return to Argentina to see a psychiatrist on September 17th and 20th.

Acosta will undergo the same assessment on September 2nd and 5th.

Karina Nacucchio, Montiel’s teammate, publicly supported the Forest loanee – who is expected to return to Seville at the end of the season.

Before being informed that he was subject to a formal investigation, Montiel voluntarily testified before a judge in June of last year.

The statement came six months after he scored Argentina’s winning penalty in their World Cup victory over France.

Raquel Hermida, the accuser’s lawyer, quashed reports that the investigation into the alleged crime had been shelved.

After alleging “irregularities” in the case, Hermida demanded psychiatric evaluations of Montiel and Acosta.

In April, Hermida also shared a video of the alleged victim talking about the incident while her face was partially covered by sunglasses.

She said: “I’m Carolina, model, host and survivor of group sexual abuse whose main perpetrator was Gonzalo Montiel, who scored the last goal of the World Cup.”

She then added: “It was his birthday and he invited me to his house.

“They drugged me until I was unconscious. This was proven during the investigation, that and my screams during the party.

“Gonzalo raped me. I spent a lot of time looking for lawyers. Everyone wanted to negotiate. None wanted to go to trial.

“I thank the foundation that provided me with psychologists and psychiatrists and my lawyer Raquel.”

Forest signed Montiel on loan from Sevilla knowing he was being investigated for rape.

The Premier League side told The Athletic: “The club has carried out due diligence and we are fully satisfied following discussions with its representatives.”

The woman who made the accusations was initially unable to name or describe the men who committed the alleged rape after the complaint was filed.

But after psychological therapy, she made some anonymous TV appearances, insisting she could now remember more details about the perpetrators.

Montiel’s voluntary statement denying any wrongdoing was conducted under oath.

No charges have yet been filed by the prosecution, although it is also not confirmed whether the case will go to trial.
