MANCHESTER UNITED legend Robin van Persie has landed his first job in management – having previously snubbed a return to Old Trafford.
The Dutch playmaker, 40, scored 58 goals in three seasons at United, helping the team win their last Premier League title in 2013.
RVP, who also played for Arsenal before their controversial move north in 2012, was given the chance to be part of Ten Hag’s coaching team two years ago.
But Van Persie rejected the opportunity to stay at Feyenoord, preferring to work with the youth teams.
And his decision turned out to be worth it, with the former striker now landing his first coaching role as head coach of Eredivisie giants Heerenveen.
The club look set to finish in 10th place ahead of their final match against Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday.
Current manager Kees van Wonderen revealed in March that he would leave at the end of his contract.
And Van Persie will take the reins this summer as he looks to make an impact as a leading man.
RVP, who scored 132 goals in eight years at Arsenal, said: |I would like to continue my development and the role of head coach fits perfectly with that aim.
“I am therefore satisfied with the opportunity that Heerenveen offers me.
