CHELSEA’S OWNERS have published a list of demands as they prepare for a big summer at Stamford Bridge.

And one of the objectives is to warn coach Mauricio Pochettino that he needs to take the team back to the Champions League.

Their failure to finish in the top four this season means they face a second successive campaign outside Europe’s elite, money-generating competition.

Chelsea have spent £1 billion on new players since an American-led consortium bought the club for £2.5 billion in May 2022.

The club insists it will comply with Premier League Profit & Rules Sustainability rules, but may seem poised to offload a number of players to balance the books.

The board of directors have produced an open letter to fans in their matchday schedule as they face a turbulent 12 months at home to Bournemouth.

And he said: “There were some moments of frustration, many others to cherish and countless reasons to be optimistic and excited about the coming years.

“We are approaching the second anniversary since becoming custodians of this incredible club and it remains an absolute privilege to hold this position.”

The broad list of goals included the desire to:

*Consistently win or compete in the Premier League and Women’s Super League titles.

How Pochettino can solve Chelsea’s midfield crisis thanks to the works of a 13th-century poet

By Andy Dillon

It is HIGHLY unlikely that Mauricio Pochettino is familiar with Rumi’s work.

Whether the renowned poet and Islamic mystic had in mind the tactical dilemmas faced by the Chelsea manager as he dreamed of his academic labors in 13th-century Afghanistan, we will never know.

It’s fair to say that Rumi wasn’t a regular at The Shed at Stamford Bridge.

However, one of his most famous quotes goes right to the heart of Pochettino’s problems as he tries to turn his team into consistent challengers at the top of the Premier League.

It was Rumi who wrote so prophetically: “Two birds tied together. They won’t be able to fly even though they have four wings.”

He could have written that in his program from so many Chelsea games this season in relation to Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

There is a feeling among regular Chelsea watchers that although it is a personal blow for Fernandez to be sidelined for the rest of the season with an injury problem, it could still be to Pochettino’s advantage.

Because it allows Caicedo to travel this stretch in front of his defense with greater freedom. Both players are exceptional individual talents.
