FRAN KIRBY says her last few months at Chelsea have been very emotional after leaving the club as Women’s Super League champions.

And although the 30-year-old former Blue wants to win more trophies in the future, she promised to build on the moment of winning the title.

Kirby produced a fairytale ending to his nine-year Chelsea career with a cameo goal in Saturday’s 6-0 thrashing of Manchester United.

The striker, described by former Blues boss Emma Hayes as a generational talent, scored the visitors’ final goal.

His finish was one of the hits that helped the team become WSL champions for the fifth consecutive season.

Kirby, now a free agent after her contract expired, told reporters: “The last few months have been very emotional and very difficult to take one day at a time.

“For me, as a football player, you always know that these situations happen and probably when I announced it back then, I was very emotional.

“But at the end of the day, I just wanted to get to the end of the season and win a trophy, so that became my main focus.

“For me now it’s just about enjoying it, enjoying the moment and hopefully in the coming years I can win a few more trophies.”

Following a 2015 Blues move from Reading, Kirby won 16 trophies with Chelsea, including seven Women’s Super League titles.

This month, the striker reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal following the departure of Vivianne Miedema.

But the Gunners’ interest in her is believed to have cooled since then, with the north London giants reportedly keeping an eye on Barcelona ace Mariona Caldentey.

Whichever club Kirby moves to next, the Lioness ace hopes to continue winning and also bring out the best in those around her.

The striker, called up to the England squad for the next two Euro qualifiers with France, adds: “I’m super competitive in everything I do, I want to win.

“As I have said in previous interviews, whether at this club or anywhere else I go.

“My main focus is to win and try to help those around me that I can and that’s what I’m going to do.”

For Kirby’s former manager Hayes, the routine continues with the former Chelsea boss heading straight to work in her new role as coach of the US women’s national team this week.

Her team will play four warm-up matches in preparation for the battle for the gold medal in women’s football at the Paris Olympics.

The first two friendlies will be duels with South Korea, in Colorado and Minnesota, on the first and fifth of June.

On whether she feels ready to return to straight work, Hayes, 47, said: “It’s not exhausting thinking about going to the Olympics, is it?

“I will be refreshed and reenergized with something else. Sometimes people think you need to rest, but sometimes you just need a change.

“On Monday I speak to (authorities about) players and staff and on Tuesday I am in a leadership meeting with the US (team) leadership.

“On Wednesday I fly to New York and on Thursday there is press in Denver.

“And on Friday I will speak to the staff and prepare for the team’s arrival next Monday.

“They deserve my full attention and they will get it from me.”
