VINCENT KOMPANY has been surprisingly linked with Bayern Munich following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship.
Kompany, 38, led the Clarets to the Championship title in his first year at the club last season but was unable to save them from the drop on their return to the Premier League.
According to transfer insider Fabricio RomanoHowever, that hasn’t stopped several clubs considering the Manchester City legend as a candidate to take over as manager.
And that includes Bayern, who “discussed Kompany internally” among other possible successors to Thomas Tuchel’s departure.
This means the Belgian tactician could move from the Championship straight to the Champions League next season.
Romano also suggested that Brighton are interested and are also looking to replace Roberto De Zerbi.
Bayern have struggled to find a new coach after failing to convince a number of key targets.
Xabi Alonso was the Bavarians’ favorite to take the bench, but the former player decided to remain at Bayern Leverkusen.
Alonso also turned down the opportunity to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery also rejected the Bundesliga giants’ advances and instead put pen to paper on new terms at Villa Park.
Bayern were also beaten by former Manchester United interim Ralf Rangnick as well as Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Benfica coach Roger Schmidt is the latest candidate to turn down the Munich team, as he also opted to remain in Lisbon.
De Zerbi has also been named as a candidate but it is claimed he is not interested in moving to the Allianz Arena.
Instead, the Italian strategist wants to take a break before deciding on his next job.
