Gareth Southgate named his provisional England squad for this summer’s European Championship in Germany, with Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford are among those left out.
The England manager has selected a 33-player training squad, which faces numerous injury headaches.
Around 10 England players are expected to miss warm-up friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland because of their involvement in the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
The squad will then be reduced to 26 players within a few weeks. England will present their final squad to UEFA at midnight on June 7th, before it is announced on June 8th.
When will England’s final Euro 2024 squad be named?
The deadline for submitting final Euro 2024 selections is June 7, as teams must submit their list at least seven days before the opening match of the tournament.
What’s the latest news from England?
Gareth Southgate has opted to call up five new players to his training squad, including Adam Wharton, along with three Crystal Palace teammates – Eberechi Eze, Marc Guehi and goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Midfielder Jarell Quansah was also called up to the training squad for the first time along with his Liverpool teammate Curtis Jones.
But there is no place for Marcus Rashford or former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, while Raheem Sterling and team-mate Ben Chilwell, more predictably, miss out.
Southgate has included 11 defenders in his squad, which will be reduced to 26 on May 7 before flying to Germany. The number of defenders reflects the injury concerns in that area of the team, with Luke Shaw a big doubt.
