LEICESTER CITY and Everton are at risk of receiving huge points deductions ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Foxes are currently awaiting their penalty for breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Punishment was avoided last season when Leicester were promoted from the Championship.

However, they could now start the next campaign with negative points.

According to Telegraphthe penalty can be between six and 15 points.

SunSport understands, however, that a 15-point deduction is unlikely, but 10 points would still be a Premier League record.

Portsmouth currently hold the record after being deducted nine points for entering administration in 2010.

Both Everton and Nottingham Forest were docked points last season for PSR breaches, with the latter receiving a four-point penalty.

Sheffield United, in turn, will start the championship season with two points less than the 2022-23 campaign.

Leicester’s plight stems from failures ahead of relegation in 2023 after nine seasons in the top flight.

The club avoided a points deduction last season after launching legal proceedings accusing the Premier League and EFL of “illegally colluding” over the allegations and seeking an injunction against a penalty before the end of the campaign.

Manager Enzo Maresca could also leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

Maresca is set to replace Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea boss.

The Italian only took charge of Leicester last summer, before leading the Foxes to the Championship title.

Premier League sides deducted points and others at risk

Nottingham Forest

Four points deducted during the 2023-24 season for breaching the Premier League spending limit by £34.563m. The appeal was rejected and the decision was upheld.

Everton

The initial 10-point deduction for Premier League breaches in 2021-22 has been reduced to six points on appeal. Two more points were deducted later in the 2023-24 season. He appealed but was withdrawn after Prem survived.

Sheffield United

They have received a two-point deduction for their finances during the 2022-23 EFL season. Will start 2024-25 Championship season with -2 points after Prem relegation.

OTHERS WHO MAY FACE PUNISHMENT…

City of Manchester

The Etihad club emphatically denies the 115 allegations made against them in February 2023. The Commission’s lengthy case is scheduled to begin in October or November, but a final decision is not expected until March or April 2025.

Chelsea

Blues bosses have exposed illicit payments made to agents and others during the Roman Abramovich era. Fined £8.6m by Uefa but still not charged by the Prem despite an ongoing investigation.

Leicester

The Foxes breached Prem PSR loss limits last season but did not have to report their 2022-23 accounts until this month due to relegation. This delays the schedule and means they are likely to face a Prem points deduction for the 2024-25 season upon their return to the top flight.

Everton (again)

The Toffees are once again at risk of breaching PSR rules and are racing against time to raise funds and balance the books. This could not only lead to another indictment, but also to the administration. This would lead to an automatic nine-point deduction for the 2024/25 season.

Everton received an eight-point deduction last season for breaching PSR rules, having lost a staggering £371.8m over three years.

The Toffees started the new cycle with £89.1m in the hole, meaning they can only afford to suffer a further £15.9m in losses before breaking the £105m cap again.

June 30th marks the end of the club’s finances, meaning owner Farhad Moshiri has just 16 DAYS to sell players and balance the books.

Failure to do so will lead to another accusation being made against the manner and administration of the Merseyseders.

This would produce an automatic nine-point deduction for the 2024/25 season and give Sean Dyches’ troops a second mountain to climb in as many seasons.
