The main football leagues and players’ unions will join forces today to tell FIFA: “We will not play in your Club World Cup – you are ruining the game”.

The threat of a boycott is being led by Prem chief Richard Masters, PFA boss Maheta Molango and LaLiga supremo Javier Tebas.

They will promise to take legal action unless the revamped 32-team tournament, which will see champions Manchester City and Chelsea in the US next summer, is rescheduled.

Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich and Jude Bellingham’s Real Madrid will also take part in the four-week tournament, which features a prize pool of more than £600 million.

FIFA chiefs ignored previous fears over player welfare.

But Molango told SunSport: “Football is killing its own product.

“Those who run the game need to listen.

“If they don’t, then as unions we have a responsibility to the players to act – and the legal route is the next step.

“Government bodies had every opportunity to meaningfully engage with us on this issue, but they did not.

“Players’ current workloads are unsustainable.

“People are realizing that the number of games put on the calendar simply doesn’t fit.”

International players’ union FifPro and the PFA believe the scheduling will leave clubs with no option but to force stars to return to action without the minimum three-week break written into ALL professional agreements.

Lawyers have now been asked to prepare legal documents for FIFA unless there is a U-turn.

Masters is the head of the World League Association, which represents all of football’s major leagues.

He will sit down with Tebas and Molango at today’s FifPro and PFA Player Workload Conference in London.

And Molango added: “This is a problem for all of football.”
