It’s (supposedly) official: Kylian Mbappé has signed his new contract with Real Madrid.

Three years after initial transfer rumors emerged and four months after announcing his intentions to leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Mbappé, 25, has signed the paperwork for his free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). turns on club, according various reports.

Real Madrid’s formal announcement will take place later this week. The change will be made official on July 1st, when the La Liga transfer window opens.

European football’s worst-kept secret for months came to an end just one day after Real Madrid defeated Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final. The victory extended the club’s record to 15 titles in the international club tournament. No other team has more than seven.

“It’s the one thing we’re perhaps missing, in terms of that clinical (attacking) 9,” Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham said after the final. “If [Mbappé] If he came and gave us that, we would be in a very, very good place. He would take us to another level.”

Mbappé becomes the third international football star to leave PSG in the last two years. Argentine striker Lionel Messi joined MLS club Inter Miami last summer after two seasons in Ligue 1, and Brazilian striker Neymar left for the Saudi Pro League in August after six years at PSG.

Kylian Mbappé contract

Mbappé signed a contract extension with PSG in May 2022 after initial speculation that he would leave for Real Madrid.

According to The Athletic, his current contract pays €200 million ($215 million) per year and includes a 12-month extension clause that only the striker could exercise. The deadline to do so expired at the end of July 2023.

Mbappé declared his intention to leave PSG in February after deciding not to renew his contract with the Ligue 1 club. The club will now lose their star striker on a free transfer once his contract expires on June 30 after reportedly rejecting an offer €200 million transfer fee from Madrid in 2021.

Mbappé’s new contract, according to BBC Sport, is for five years until the 2028-29 season. He will earn 15 million euros ($16.3 million) per season, with a signing bonus of 150 million euros ($163.9 million) to be paid over the next five years.

According to insider Fabrizio Romano, the deal costs less money than the club initially offered in 2022 and more in line with what other Real Madrid stars like Bellingham and Vinicius Junior receive. It also includes bonuses for winning prizes and a percentage of your image rights, says Romano.

How signing Mbappé will affect Real Madrid

Romano included in his report that many players are very excited about signing Mbappé after years of trying. He said the 2023-24 La Liga champions have long trusted the process of those in charge to keep the club in a position to “win every competition, to be competitive in every trophy”.

Real Madrid also had other contractual news on Sunday: Croatian midfielder Luka Modrić will sign a new contract to stay with Los Blancos next week.

“Modrić didn’t care about money, he rejected two big proposals,” Romano wrote in his report.

This statement, if true, further reflects the players’ trust in Real Madrid club directors.

Real Madrid winger Rodrygo sparked speculation about a possible intention to leave the club, as he did not rule out leaving before the Champions League final. The Brazilian was linked with Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window, but shut down all rumors after the game.

“Of course I will stay at Real Madrid. Why should I leave? I will stay,” he told reporters.

It is unclear to what extent Modrić and Rodrygo’s decisions were affected by the club’s decision to sign Mbappé. It appears that this hasn’t hurt Real Madrid, even if Rodrygo could miss playing time following the French striker’s arrival.
