Sean Dyche has called on Everton to “get it together” after a second points drop this season plunged his team further into relegation danger.

Everton were handed a two-point penalty this week for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), after being docked six points earlier in the campaign for similar breaches.

Dyche’s side are now just two points above the relegation zone as they fight to avoid dropping into the second division for the first time since 1954.

But the Everton manager believes his players will be able to deal with the blow following the response to the previous deduction, which was reduced by 10 points on appeal.

Everton’s best spell of the season came shortly after their initial sanction in November with a four-game winning run, including a 2-0 victory over their opponents Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

“The last time we knocked, everyone came together and I think it’s important to remember that. The fans were fantastic in a new reality. Now there’s another,” Dyche told reporters on Thursday.

“Everyone said, ‘Wait a minute, the badge is more important than anything,’ and I still feel the same way.

“The reset is Chelsea. A reaction to the news is important, a positive reaction. The time for blaming and blaming is over. That’s how society works – everyone wants to blame and blame for everything, but we have to stop that.

“What’s done is done. We just have to stay on track, stay connected and face the next challenge. The club has suffered some problems recently, let’s all come together and sort it out.”

Everton are set to appeal the latest sanction and, although Dyche does not want to dwell on the matter, he admitted that a feeling of injustice remains at Goodison Park.

Nottingham Forest have received a four-point deduction for PSR breaches this season, while Manchester City are still awaiting possible punishment after being accused by the Premier League of 115 breaches of financial regulations.

“I think it’s difficult because of the confusion. I don’t think it’s just Evertonians,” Dyche said.

“I travel a lot and football fans often come up to me and ask, ‘What is this?’ They’re confused by it and we’re a little confused by it.”
