Bowen was given a starting start by manager Gareth Southgate as he continued his quest to make the final 26-man squad for Euro 2024.

With a minute of normal time remaining, Bowen was set up in the box by James Maddison.

He sent a shot towards the goal, but it was somehow blocked by Konsa.

Harry Kane managed to convert the rebound but Bowen could not hide his dismay at being denied.

The striker fell with his hands on his knees even after Kane’s finish.

Interviewed by Channel 4 after the game, Bowen appeared to have shaken off his disappointment.

But fans on social media were still disappointed for him.

One dramatically wrote: “I hope Bowen takes scissors to Konsa’s passport for this.”

While a second groaned: “Konsa is laughing so hard. Has been bothering Bowen all night, then he managed to stop his shot on the line. What a joke.”

A third shouted: “Konsa denying Bowen his first England goal is disgusting.”

England will be without FIVE stars including Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka for friendly against Bosnia, confirms Southgate

And another added: “Konsa sabotaged Bowen all night and now it’s cost him a goal.”

Having missed the 2022 World Cup after being dropped from the provisional squad, Bowen was asked by Sky Sports whether he is a better player and stronger person for the experience.

He replied: “I don’t know if I’m better now, people will probably tell me otherwise.

“I’m more mature as a player and that comes with age, with the games you play, with confidence in each game you play.

“And every opportunity you get here, I think you gain confidence from it.”

England face Iceland on Friday, with Southgate set to cut seven players from his 33-man provisional squad on Saturday.
