A Moroccan defender countered Kipoyi’s aggressive challenge and the pair began pushing and shoving as the referee showed the red card.

Another Moroccan star got involved and tried to push Kipoyi away before being punched in the face by the Galatasaray women’s star.

She immediately fell to the ground and got on her knees as medical staff rushed to provide help.

The shocking incident prompted fans to call for a major ban for 26-year-old Kipoyi.

One reacted by saying: “Should this be a lifetime ban from football? How can this happen on a football field?”

Another added: “This is so crazy.”

A third wrote: “Ban for life.”

And another commented: “The police should be involved.”

Football’s biggest bans

1. Olafur Gottskalksson – lifetime ban

The goalkeeper was banned indefinitely by the FA for failing to take a drugs test whilst playing for Torquay in 2005.

Gottskalksson disappeared when testers showed up at the training camp out of fear that cocaine would appear in his system.

2. Enoch West – 30 years

The former Manchester United player was suspended for match-fixing along with three teammates.

They all had their bans lifted after enlisting for World War I, but West never did.

3. Bradley Wood – Six years

Wood was banned after a tribunal found he had been deliberately booked during Lincoln’s FA Cup victories over Ipswich Town and Burnley during the 2016/17 season.

4. Chris Buckley – 17 months

After signing for Aston Villa in 1912, Buckley refused to play because he believed the club owed him £250.

Villa claimed he had breached the contract, suspended him indefinitely and reported it to the League. The League committee ruled that Buckley’s demands were illegal and suspended him until April 1914.

5. Joey Barton – 13 months

The controversial figure was banned in April 2017 after admitting charges related to betting – 1,260 bets on football matches between 2006-2016.

His ban was later reduced by five months following an appeal.

Kipoyi left the field after the incident as tensions cooled.

Morocco won the match 3-2, leading 2-1 at the time of the red card.
