AN international friendly between Mexico and Uruguay was marred by chaos, with fans fighting in the stands and the pitch being invaded.
Mexico suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Uruguay, with Liverpool star Darwin Nunez scoring three goals in the friendly.
In the 90th minute of the game played at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, CO, USA, two fans ran onto the field.
Referee Oshane Nation quickly stopped the game as the stewards attempted to tackle the pair of invaders.
The fans present seemed quite satisfied with the interruption of the process, given the situation of the score.
Mexican fans had previously been heard chanting “ole” at their own team.
In fact, the pitch invasion ended up leading the referee to end the game three minutes early.
However, after the final whistle, violence broke out in the stands.
The images showed people being seen punching each other.
It is unclear what triggered the scenes, but other bystanders rushed into the melee to try to separate the attackers.
