HARRY KANE’S trophy hunger would have ended three years ago if José Mourinho hadn’t been sacked as Spurs manager – so says the Special One himself.

The legendary boss received his P45 from Daniel Levy six days before the 2021 League Cup final.

Tottenham ended up losing to Manchester City and Kane’s career-long quest for silverware has continued ever since.

This is despite moving last summer to perennial champions Bayern Munich, who incredibly finished the season empty-handed during Kane’s first tenure in Germany.

Mourinho, named this week as Fenerbahçe’s new boss, said: “Kane scored goals for Tottenham in England and I had no doubt he would score goals for Bayern.

“Harry is a fantastic, complete player, who scores goals from all sides of the field, but he is not selfish – he assists, goes deep, builds the game, presses, defends.

“The only thing left is to win a trophy. He was my player at Tottenham and I was going to win one with him, but I was fired six days before the final.”

Kane, 30, is hoping to win his first Euro winners’ medal this summer.

Mourinho likes England’s opportunities – but also considers his own country, Portugal, to be in great shape.

The 61-year-old added: “I don’t want to be disrespectful to the previous generations we had.

“But in terms of squad depth and quality, we are now probably the best we have ever been and Portugal can continue to win.

“It’s about having confidence and self-belief that they can beat anyone.

“I don’t want to say that Portugal is the best team, but Spain, France, England, Germany are not better.

“If there is a surprise (winner), I will be surprised! France and Germany are always doing well, Portugal and England are better than ever.

“These four teams. I’m not sure about Spain, but the football they play and the players they have are of the highest quality. Italy or Belgium would be a surprise.”
