This was not a good day for the United States men’s national team.
Facing the visit of a team from Colombia that was on a long unbeaten run a week before the 2024 Copa América, the Yanks looked like a team that would struggle in CONCACAF play.

A 5-1 defeat, despite few absences, will raise eyebrows on all continents, as Colombia were very good and the USMNT were anything but.
Timothy Weah was the top scorer, but no one came away from this without warts as the substitutes fought back and saw the game go from 2-1 to a hasty explosion.
It all started and ended with multiple concessions. The reviews won’t be great.

Matt Turner: 5.5 – A fantastic save, but I was hoping to stop at least one, if not several goals.
Antonée Robinson: 4.5 – Very good going forward. Very bad (and unlucky) at the rear. One of his poorest days in a USA shirt.
Tim Ream (at 62′): 6 – The veteran had a moment to forget against Los Cafeteros, with a particularly egregious error that led to Colombia’s goal. Other than that, he was solid, winning almost every duel and showing a good range of passes.
Chris Richards: 5 – He passed the ball well, but he looked like a player who got used to playing as a central defender in this defense against a very high level opponent.
Joe Scally: 5 – Active and busy, but wants to see better in the second header that leads to Colombia’s second goal.
Johnny Cardoso (at 81′): 5 — He deserves a 7 in the first half and significantly lower in the second half, which included some blatant and loud errors.
Weston McKennie (at 71′): 5 – He will have great games, good games and bad games, but it is rare that we see ‘quiet’ play from Weston McKennie. That was it. It was strange to witness.
Giovanni Reyna (at 62′): 7.5 – Another lively hour for Reyna, who was always trying to push the ball to Colombia’s third-placed team and played well in defense.
Christian Pulisic (outside HT): 7 – He has a magnet about him during USMNT games, more so than in AC Milan affairs, and Pulisic’s minutes limit has seen him suffer a lot of punishment.
Timothy Weah: 6.5 – The movement and finishing for his goal were good, but I can’t say he was very noticeable throughout the 90 minutes.
Folarin Balogun (at 71′): 7 – Excellent assist, but he could have scored two goals if his boots had been tied properly. A very promising performance that could be improved on in the final ball.

Haji Wright (in HT): 6 – Only 18 touches, two in the Colombian area.
Malik Tillman (at 62′): 5 – Calm, and no one in midfield in the second half should get a good grade.
Cameron Carter-Vickers (at 62′): 5.5 – People will knock him for the pass that was made for Colombia’s final goal. Clear. But that’s on the team around him and the aspiring receiver as well.
