ARSENAL have suffered an injury scare, with Victoria Pelova suffering torn knee ligaments during the game against the Netherlands.

Earlier today, the club confirmed that the 25-year-old Dutch striker had torn her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the Women’s Euro qualifiers.

Pelova was injured early in his country’s 1-1 draw with Finland last Tuesday.

The Gunners ace was forced to retire in the 12thth minute of the clash at Tammelan Stadium after “extending his knee”.

Pelova’s ACL tear came at a time when Arsenal were planning to add to their attacking ranks following the departure of compatriot Vivianne Miedema.

The 27-year-old Dutch striker, who is the WSL’s current all-time top scorer, left the club last month, ending her seven-year spell.

However, the Gunners, who finished their third season and won this year’s Conti Cup, have reportedly sealed Mariona Caldentey’s move.

Sky Sports reports that the 28-year-old Spanish striker and former Barcelona ace, three-time Champions League winner, is set to join Arsenal next month.

Yesterday, 25-year-old Gunners full-back Laura Wienroither signed a new contract with the club two months after returning from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Over the past two years, the WSL giants have had several of their stars sidelined for months with knee ligament injuries.

Leah Williamson, 27, Beth Mead, 29, and Miedema are among those who returned to action last season after suffering anterior cruciate ligament injuries the season before.

Pelova, who helped his team win the Conti Cup in March, will undergo surgery “in due course”, according to an update on his club’s website.

The Dutch striker will be out for a long period.

This means she will miss Arsenal Women’s first pre-season tour of the United States in August.
