ROME (AP) — Lazio’s players were booed by their own fans but regained their pride after a poor recent run to beat last-place Salernitana 4-1 on Friday and move up to seventh in the Italian league.

The capital club entered the match after defeats to rivals Juventus and Roma and fans displayed a banner reading “You are not worthy of wearing our shirt” before the game.

Newly appointed coach Igor Tudor was without several top players, including Ciro Immobile and Matteo Guendouzi, but the home team showed character and won 2-0 in 14 minutes against a team that had not won a game since December last year.

Felipe Anderson opened the scoring with a solo goal after just six minutes and Matías Vecino doubled Lazio’s lead eight minutes later.

Loum Tchaouna pulled one back for the visitors two minutes later with a powerful header, but Anderson restored the two-goal lead by finishing a tricky passing move 10 minutes before half-time.

Danish winger Gustav Isaksen completed the rout three minutes from the final whistle, just seconds after coming on as a substitute.

The victory did little to appease the home fans, but it put Lazio a point ahead of Napoli and one behind Atalanta, both with games in hand.

The result was another unhappy night for Salernitana in an already dismal season. The club is at the bottom of the table with just 15 points out of a possible 96 and relegation is almost guaranteed.
