In particular, they want to delete scenes where several players surround referees.

UEFA chief referee Roberto Rosetti has confirmed that players who complain to referees will now be immediately warned.

He said: “With dissent, the process is clear.

“We are doing this for football, for the image of the game, for the next generation of players and referees.

“It’s impossible to explain a decision to 10 or 12 players surrounding the referee.”

The captain of each team will be able to talk to the referee to clarify the decisions, as long as they do it correctly.

Rosetti, 56, continued: “We need one player, just the captain, who must address the referee in a respectful manner.

“The referee will explain to the captain, while the fourth official will explain to the coach at the same time.

“The players listened well. Of course there can always be discussions about anger,” continued Rosetti.

“This is a never-ending story. It’s a gray area, but it was good to share with them.”

UEFA has also made adjustments regarding foul play and the role of handball.

Rosetti explained: “We ask referees to have zero tolerance for dirty play. This is something we cannot accept.

“When it comes to handball, not every touch is a penalty. We want to consider player movement.

“If the ball is close to his body and in a natural position, trying to avoid contact, there is no penalty

“But unless it’s a deliberate handball by the defender, even if it’s a penalty, it’s no longer a yellow card.”

The tournament is set to begin tomorrow night in Munich when Scotland face hosts Germany at Bayern’s Allianz Arena.
