CHELSEA are set to reject a cheeky bid from Atletico Madrid for Conor Gallagher.

The Spanish giants have expressed interest in the English midfielder, who is currently playing for the national team at Euro 2024.

But the La Liga side are struggling to come close to the £50m valuation given to the academy graduate.

Gallagher, 24, has just one year left on his contract and Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for one of their most experienced players.

Sources in Spain claim that Atletico, who finished fourth in La Liga last season, could attempt a loan move but that too is likely to fail.

Chelsea are only interested in permanent offers as they look to balance their books during the summer transfer window.

Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, West Ham and Everton have all been linked with moves for Gallagher in the past.

The player is fully aware of his value, with just 12 months left until he can leave Chelsea for free, in accordance with Bosman’s decision.

He was named captain several times last season under now-deceased manager Mauricio Pochettino.

And new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is well aware that interest in Gallagher is rising.

It is understood that Maresca considers one of the players in Leicester’s title-winning squad an ideal replacement.

Unheralded Englishman Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, 25, was the star of the Foxes as they achieved an instant return to the top flight.

Liverpool also monitored him last season, but Leicester are prepared to hold firm to their £40m valuation.

The Foxes believe they do not need to sell players this summer.
