NEWCASTLE’S 4-0 win over Spurs triggered a one-off transfer clause – making Lewis Hall’s big-money move from Chelsea permanent.
The left-back was loaned for £4m, with a full transfer worth an extra £24m if the Toon were 15th or above in the Premier League.
Saturday’s surprise win over Tottenham secured a deal for Hall – even though he was an unused substitute.
The add-ons could eventually take the England Under-21 star’s fee to £35m.
And Magpies boss Eddie Howe insisted he always wanted to keep the 19-year-old despite his limited appearances.
Howe said last month: “It’s agreed. I’m preparing for Lewis to be at Newcastle for many years to come.
“He was always brought in with a long-term vision.
“Something we just need a little patience for. Players evolve at different speeds, but we are very pleased with the progress he has made.
“We have always believed in him and his quality and we have worked a lot with him on his game.”
Sixth-ranked Newcastle are obviously aiming for a European place rather than just doing enough to recruit Hall – for which they just had to finish outside the bottom five.
And Chelsea will be happy to cash in on him too
Stamford Bridge co-owner Todd Boehly is struggling to balance the books at the end of the season to comply with the Prem Profit and Sustainability Rules.
And the fee for Hall counts as 100% profit since he is a local player.
