ENGLAND has some secrets to success at Euro 2024.

While talent on the pitch is key to progressing to the final stages of the competition, Gareth Southgate is aware that maintaining good spirits and ensuring a quick recovery is also vital.

England has done just that in previous tournaments under Southgate, allowing players to relax with various post-game activities.

Spend time in pool with inflatable unicorns was the most memorable example of this and although it could return, Southgate’s boys opted for an alternative after defeating Serbia 1-0.

There have also been changes to nutrition and training, with some players instructed to perform unique roles.

Electric bicycles

Players taking part in the Three Lions’ opening European Cup match enjoyed a bike ride near the Weimarer Spa & Golf Resort – base hotel in England.

As well as being a fun activity for the players, the session was carefully planned by the physical performance and nutrition team to aid post-game recovery.

The tastes of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham rode KTM and Scott electric bikes, supplied by a local bike shop in Blankenhain and averaging a price of around £3,380 on the shop’s website.

Recovery Methods

Cycling is a fundamental recovery method that was introduced alongside football games and cryotherapy.

The team of nutritionists also brought PICKLE JUICE as a secret to a quick recovery.

Four dilemmas for Southgate ahead of England’s second clash at Euro 2024

GARETH SOUTHGATE has a lot to think about ahead of Thursday’s second Group C game against Denmark.

SunSport’s CHARLIE WYETT looks at the key issues facing the England manager…

TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

Southgate believes the Liverpool right-back can be an excellent partner for Declan Rice in midfield. Alexander-Arnold did well in the 1-0 win over Serbia, but he is a work in progress in this position – to say the least. Asked about his display, Southgate said: “It looked like he was great when we were in control, but he struggled a bit when we lost control.” Conor Gallagher was introduced and made England more solid. If Alexander-Arnold is dropped for Denmark, the whole experiment will be over.

Phil Foden

The Manchester City star is becoming something of an enigma, which is a shame. Mainly because he had an absolutely fantastic season for City. Foden has played 35 times for England and you can count the good games on one hand. Southgate will almost certainly stick with Foden for the match against Denmark rather than releasing Anthony Gordon or Eberechi Eze. If Foden struggles on Thursday, Southgate will have to make the call and replace him after an hour.

KIERAN TRIPPIER

The Newcastle defender did well against Serbia, despite not being fully fit, having just returned from a long break. Add the fact that he is right-handed and doesn’t fit perfectly on the left either. Southgate intends to sign Luke Shaw when he is 100 per cent, but that is unlikely to happen against Denmark.

HARRY KANE

The England captain almost scored his 64th international goal when he hit the post – but it was still a struggle. He touched the ball just twice in the first half. Kane is certainly not falling as deeply as he has in the past, so the service has to be better. Likewise, it doesn’t look entirely elegant. He missed the end of the season at Bayern Munich with a back injury, although he returned as a substitute for England against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The slight concern over Kane was one of the reasons why a third striker, Ivan Toney, was added to the squad, with James Maddison and Jack Grealish left out.

The juice is effective in combating colic and was used by Kieran Trippier against Serbia.

It contains vinegar, sodium and potassium and triggers a reflex in the mouth that directs a signal to stop muscle cramps.

It is said to be more effective and acts “40% faster than drinking water” and has been used by tennis stars including Carlos Alcaraz.

Players pretending to be the opponent

Southgate handed out special roles to two England players ahead of the opening match – Ollie Watkins It is Ivan Toney.

Neither had the opportunity to play alongside Kane in training as they were tasked with “pretending to be Serbia”.

Watkins revealed that he took on the role of Dusan Vlahovic with Toney acting like Aleksandar Mitrovic to test England’s defense.

Aston Village attacker I enjoyed the sessions saying:

“We weren’t that bad! Ivan is a good Mitrovic and I was Vlahovic.”
