We were blessed with some midweek NWSL action and there was a lot of information to tell. Let’s see what happened in both games.
What happened?
Gotham FC extended their winning streak with a dramatic late game victory over San Diego. A goal from Maycee Bell in the 98th minute surprised the visitors and kept Gotham alive in the race for first place.
More drama unfolded in Los Angeles when Sydney Leroux scored late in the game for Angel City to take all three points against Racing Louisville.
Moment of the night
You just can’t score your first NWSL goal and win the game in the eighth minute of stoppage time for the icing on the cake.
Player of the night
Stars are getting younger and younger!
What this means
Gotham’s dramatic victory is their fifth in a row and moves them within two points of league leaders KC Current. Meanwhile, San Diego is outside the top eight after failing to win any of its last five games.
Angel City’s victory sees them tied with their opponents that night, although they remain out of playoff contention.
What comes next
The NWSL returns this weekend, starting on Friday night with a lopsided clash between second-place Orlando and cellar-dwellers Utah.
