Walking through the canopies of Arrowhead Stadium, which also serves as the home of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, Messi was greeted by quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The three-time Super Bowl winner was in attendance along with his wife Brittany and Chiefs coach Andy Reid.

Co-owner of Sporting KC, Mahomes wore a team shirt and sunglasses while waiting for Messi.

“Hey dude?” he told Messi as the two shook hands.

“Nice to meet you,” Messi seemed to respond, before Mahomes added: “Have fun.”

The clip quickly made the rounds on X, formerly known as Twitter, with fans wasting no time in sharing their thoughts on the exchange.

“Messi doesn’t know who this guy is,” suggested one fan.

“Goats,” commented a second.

“Messi finally spoke English there???” a third shocked fan wrote.

While another predicted: “Two goals for Messi today.”

Although he may already have four goals to his name in MLS, this has been a difficult season for Messi.

He had been forced to miss four of eight league games before Saturday, either to rest or through injury.

The injury also forced the former Barcelona ace to sit out the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup defeat to Monterrey on April 3.

Fortunately for Inter Miami fans, who include co-owner and England legend David Beckham, coach Gerardo Martino was able to field a strong starting 11 on Saturday.

Also returning to the lineup is Luis Suarez, joining former Barça stars Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

If Messi and company leave Missouri with a win, they could go top of the table, with the New York Red Bulls just two points clear.

As for Sporting KC, they also had a mixed start to the season, placing seventh in the Western Conference.

Led by former Scottish star Johnny Russell, they went 2-5-1 to start the year.

However, a win could also be enough to take them top of the table with leaders Vancouver Whitecaps two points ahead at the start of the evening.
